I am a life long geek, who is just now accepting my geekyness.  When I was a young guy it wasn’t cool to be a geek!  Yes, I was one of the types that was deep into science and technology.  For instance,  whereas my friends had AM/FM radios, I had shortwave, CB and scanner radios.  My friends had one or two aquariums, I had fifteen (fresh and salt water.)  My friends sent their film to the drug store to get pictures, I developed my own.  You get the drift!  But back in the day, it just wasn’t cool to be geek!  Over the years, my parents and friends tried to mold me into something I wasn’t — a non geek.  I even thought for a long time I could change myself into a non geek — but I failed!  And now I find that my geek nature is not only inescapable but something to be embraced.  I’m finding now in this stage of my life (50 something) that it’s actually quite cool to be geek!
